TASOS ZOIDIS
In the Greek inland people have a very different relation to the landscape, in direct contrast to that of the urban centers. There is a constant dialog involving concepts like loneliness, isolation, freedom, family and nostalgia. Changes to the landscape become part of history and shape an unclear cultural identity. East Macedonia and Thrace is my reference, the place I live, explore and document. A place with a peculiar anthropogeography and a shifting economic landscape. In some areas the tourist industry is blooming thanks in large part to visitors from the Balkans. Meanwhile people affected by the economic crisis return back home to the land of their families. Others are leaving searching a better future. As an ‘insider’ I reflect on these elements.
