Voreia
ILIAS KOUMOULIDIS
In terms of geography, Voreia refers to a small part of Northern Greece, mainly in the prefectures of Kavala and Drama. A region of the Balkans with all the pros and cons that this position gives it.
Two components of place, as well as the way they interact with each other is what I am looking for: landscape and people. The photographic process has a revealing character to me, leading me to an understanding of the environment in which I live and work.
My own North, which is South for others, is changing through a process that sometimes is slow and smooth, while others it’s violent and abrupt.
The constructions in the countryside but also in the borders of the cities and the villages give me information about the people who created them. They are a part of the past and the present of this place, and to a certain extent they give us a taste about what tomorrow will be like.
I started working on this project in 2017.
