OPEN CALL 2022

We renew our invitation to artists who use the photographic medium to record aspects of the Greek countryside.

Our goal for the 3rd Open Call is to present works that capture life in the Greek islands and projects that focus on young people and adolescents, their places and their entertainment culture.

Landscape, the environment and the way of life, the cultural and other aspects, the study and reframing of individual and collective photographs and archives always remain in the context of our interests.

The main criteria for selection are the systematic engagement and coherence of the proposed series in terms of form and content.

SUBMISSION PERIOD: 1 April to 30 June 2022 30 September 2022

“The Provinces” team will study and discuss the submitted projects and contact the photographers within three months of the deadline for their possible inclusion on the platform.
If your work is selected for the platform you will be requested to supply your project statement in the English language too.

Please also read the texts in the About section and the Exhibitions section at the-provinces.com in order to have a thorough idea of what the platform is about.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES AND SPECIFICATIONS

Your folder should be titled using your surname and name in the format (SURNAME_NAME) and include:

  • 10 to 30images from a photographic project, either complete or in progress.
  • A word file (doc or docx), which must contain, your contact details(email, phone), the title of your project, a statement about the project (up to 300 words) and a short cv (up to 150 words). Optional link to your site.
  • Photo specifications: File type: jpg,size: 1600 pixels the long side, max file size 600KB (for each file)

FAQ

Q: Who can enter “The Provinces” Open Call?

A: Anyone, professional or not, 18 years of age and above, can enter the Open Call.

 

Q: We are a photographic duo or team of photographers working at the same project. Can we enter the Open Call?

A: Yes, you can. Just make sure that you clearly state that at your bio.

 

Q: How many photographs can I enter into the same series?

A: A series may consist of at least 10 and no more than 30 photographs, sharing a common theme and a single title. Series will be judged as a whole. Please be sure that the photographs work together as a body of work.

 

Q: How should I submit my photographs for the competition?

A: Submit your work via wetransfer.com by sending it to the e-mail: the.provinces.platform@gmail.com. Please, read the specifications carefully before submitting your proposal.

 

Q: What specs should the digital files have?

A: Your folder should by titled using your surname and name in the format (SURNAME_NAME) and include:

  1.     10 to 30 images from a photographic project, either complete or in progress.
  2.     A word file (doc or docx), which must contain the title, a statement about the project (up to 300 words), a short bio (up to 100 words) and your phone number. Optional link to your site, facebook /Instagram accounts.

Photo specifications: 

– File type: jpg, size: 1600 pixels the longest side, 72 dpi, no larger than 600KB per image.

– Name each photo with your last name followed by title of the project and image number (eg. SURNAME_PROJECT_01).

 

Q: Is there a limit to the number of projects I can submit?

A: No, you may submit as many projects, as you wish.

 

Q: Is there a time limit within which the photographs should have been taken?

A: No. There is no time limit.

 

Q: Can I make changes to my entry after I submit my project?

A: You can send again your project but you have to inform us to cancel your previous submission.

 

Q: How will my images be used and where they will be shown?

A: You will be contacted each time we identify your images for usage – and briefed on what the usage will be. Your images are NEVER used for any purpose other than the featuring of your project at ‘The Provinces” platform or any other possible promotion of your project, such as exhibitions, online or printed publications, Facebook and Instagram featuring etc.

 

Q: Will I be compensated for the use of my images?

A: There is no monetary renumeration for the use of your image, however in the case that it is being used for something other than the promotion of the competition, you will be contacted and given the option to decline the use of your work.

 

Q: When will the accepted works be announced?

A: “The Provinces” team will study and discuss the submitted projects and contact the photographers via e-mail within three months of the deadline for their possible inclusion on the platform.
