Synantisi: (Greek: Συνάντηση; English: Meeting, Coming together, Meetup, Encounter, Reunion,…)
You will find the Café “Synantisi” in the corner of K.Kartali and Argonafton street, only a few steps away from the promenade of Volos, Café “Synantisi” is a traditional coffee place, established back in the 1930. As its name suggests, “Synantisi” is a meeting point. Tradesmen, merchants, and suppliers would frequent this place back in the day to discuss business. This was also where villagers of Pelion would meet up with the city folk (Triantou, 1994, p.252).
Today Cafe “Synantisi” is popular with the elderly, offering a mostly relaxed ambience, but for the occasional heated debate. The decor remains simple, with the painting of Moutzouris, the old coal train of Volos, enjoying the focal point.
I first visited Cafe “Synantisi” back in the February of 2018. Once there, time felt unapologetically relevant, and could not help but feeling enchanted. In the following months, I came over again and again and enjoyed the discussion with its loyal crowd.
Thanking cordially the people of Cafe “Synantisi” for allowing me into their place and world alike.
