My attempt to approach photographically the breeders emerged as they are an integral part of the daily life of the province of Epirus, where I live.
The nature of their occupation makes them become tough and sensitive at the same time. Dealing with living creatures requires medical care, delivery assistance, feeding at the required times and generally maintaining those conditions that allow the livestock to stay healthy, a fact that contributes to the better quality of the products.
They frequently have to confront diseases that threaten the herds. And more often than not, the weather is not an ally in their work.
Despite the rapid development of technology, there are many reasons which force Greek stockbreeders make use of obsolete ways of breeding dating back to past decades.
Intense physical fatigue and loss of personal and social life are elements that breeders face while they are engaged in animal husbandry.
The sense of freedom that their work environment offers, is eventually transformed into a silent form of imprisonment due to the very nature of their work.
